Earth science connects the systems that shape our planet: rocks and plate tectonics, the atmosphere and weather, oceans, climate, landforms, maps, and the solar system around us. Paste a question, describe a diagram, or upload a worksheet photo to get the reasoning behind the answer, not just a final line.
Most earth science answers describe a process rather than a number, so the working looks different from a physics or chemistry problem. A useful explanation names the process, says what drives it and puts the stages in order — which is what a mark scheme is asking for when it says "explain". Where a calculation does appear, such as a contour gradient or an earthquake travel time, the units are carried through each line.
If one stage does not land, ask about that stage on its own in the same chat rather than restarting the whole answer.
Every step names the process it describes.
Start from the rock or the boundary in front of you. Ask how an igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic rock formed, what a mineral property tells you about it, why a plate boundary produces the earthquakes and volcanoes it does, or how a cross-section records the order of events.
The answer should connect the observation to the process — grain size to cooling rate, folding to compression, an unconformity to a gap in the record — so you can apply the same reasoning to the next sample or diagram.
Weather questions turn on air masses, pressure, humidity and the energy moving between them. Climate questions ask the same physics over a much longer span, which is why the two get confused. Ask for the difference in the terms of your own course and the answer can name the timescale rather than repeating a definition.
The same reasoning covers the water cycle, the carbon cycle, the greenhouse effect and the way the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and biosphere feed into each other.
A large part of an earth science paper lives in the figure rather than the sentence. These are the map, ocean and landform questions the solver can work through with you.
Contour lines, elevation, gradient and drawing a profile across a slope.
Reading units, boundaries and structures, then putting the events in order.
Surface and deep circulation, salinity, density and how currents move heat.
What drives the tidal cycle, and how waves shape a coastline over time.
Weathering, erosion, transport and deposition, and the shapes each one leaves.
The time scale, relative dating and half-life calculations with the units shown.
Upload a photo or a screenshot when the question comes with a weather map, a cross-section, a contour map, a data table or a lab worksheet. The labels and the given data are read off the figure first, then the explanation follows from them.
Handwritten lab notes and field sketches work the same way. If part of the image is unclear, say what it shows in your own words and the answer can work from that description instead.
Each branch has its own page when a question goes deeper than the overview here.
Revising rather than solving? The AI flashcards generator turns a term list into recall practice, and the AI quiz generator checks whether the definitions stuck.
